Round 5 Done!
Hi Everyone!
Grace continues to impress us with her courage and strength as she fights this enormous battle!
Grace's GFR (kidney test) came back fine however her hearing test showed that she has lost the ability to hear high pitch sounds in her right ear. This is a common side effect of the chemo drugs that Grace is on and is more of a "nice to know" rather than something that would alter Grace's treatment plans.
Grace had a short surgery two Thurs. ago to reinsert her CVL which she recovered well from. She handled round 5 chemo well... vomiting 2-3 times a day but tolerating low rate feeds via her G tube nicely. Her weight continues to clime since her G Tube was inserted which we are very happy about. She broke 13kgs last week and we hope she gets back to her presurgery weight of 13.9kgs soon.
It took an extra day for Grace to clear her chemo drugs so we where free for discharge as of Friday. After a blood transfusion (RBC) we were on the road just after 5pm and settled in at home a couple hours after that.
Grace has been enjoying her toys, cat and king size bed at home over the last few days and her temp. has been stable. We are hopeful that this lasts and we will have a few more days at home prior to admitting on March 5 for Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT).
Today we are at Credit Valley Hospital for a CBC which revealed platelets of 9 so she is currently getting a couple of units while she snoozes quite comfortably.
The plan for BMT is:
Admit for catheter, bloodwook etc. March 5
Mega dose chemo March 6 - March 11
Rest days to let chemo clear March 12 & 13
BMT March 14
Strict isolation ("bubble room") March 14 - April 9
Step down (still isolation but not as strict) for another 3 weeks
Discharge in May sometime depending on how her counts recover.
